Hunting for the Rift
As always, before you begin an Exploration, you’ll need to select your difficulty level. Now, you’ll also be able to toggle between the usual Rift exploration mode and a “Rift Boss” mode, which will give you a chance of encountering the big bad boss.
You’ll know ‘em when you see ‘em. The Rift Boss is beefier in power and size than your run-of-the-mill Rift enemies. Not only will it be bigger, but you’ll also notice it has enhanced attack and shield stats.
Even though the Rift Boss is the biggest baddy in The Rift, there are still ways to triumph over it and gather some sweet, sweet Shards which, depending on how many you have at the end of Season 6, will determine your placement on the Shard Leaderboard (more on this below).
Look for Seals to get
a leg up.
Seals are objects spread throughout each Biome level that you can break when found. They look like mini-block towers. You can’t miss them. To break a Seal, rapidly click on them like you would when encountering a resource stash or Loot Chest.
Every Seal you break will weaken the Rift Boss’ shield. If you find enough Seals, you could potentially battle the Rift Boss with no shield and even weakened battery. Check this out:
How to fight the Rift Boss.
You’ll come across a special area of the Biome map that will transform into the Rift Boss Arena. When you enter an arena, there will be no other enemies or resource stashes.
When you enter a Rift Boss Arena, you cannot move out of the Rift Boss’s attack range. In other words, you cannot leave combat. The rules of fighting the Rift Boss will be the same as fighting other enemies. You and the Rift Boss will take turns until one of you is defeated.
If the Rift Boss wins
If the Rift Boss defeats your HV, you will receive zero Shards and you will be returned to your Forge with half the items in your Battle Bag.
But if you win…
You'll collect Shards!
The number of Shards the Rift Boss will drop after your victory depends on the difficulty of the fight and the number of turns in combat. The fewer turns it takes you to defeat the Rift Boss, the higher your Shard multiplier will be, so pick your moves and use Infusions wisely!
The more Shards you collect throughout the season, the higher you will place on the Shard Leaderboard. Those who are at the top of the Shards Leaderboard will be rewarded with ApeCoin.
Get those Shards into
your Battle Bag.
During an Expedition, each HV will be able to hold a limited number of Shards in their Battle Bag, based on its HV class. The higher the class, the more Shards your HV can hold.
All HV classes can use Gears to upgrade their Battle Bag Shard capacity, with a maximum capacity of 500 Shards in a single Expedition. If you want to upgrade your Battle Bag Shard capacity, make sure to do it before you begin an Expedition as it can’t be upgraded during one. Your Battle Bag will have a separate space to store Shards, so you will still be able to collect materials, gemstones, and chests. Every time you return to your Forge, the Shards you collected from your Expedition will be stored in your Forge so that you can collect more once you enter back into your next Rift Boss battle.
When you defeat a shimmer rift boss, your shard total will be granted a multiplier based on the biome level you started the expedition on. This will allow you to take back more shards to your Forge than your maximum shard capacity. Here’s the multiplier breakdown:
Don’t forget to GTFO.
If you defeat the Rift Boss, you will still need to leave the area and find the exit Portal. If you do not find the exit Portal before your Battery runs out, then you will be sent back to your Forge with only half of your Shards and half of your Battle Bag items.
Reap the rewards
and forge on.
Rewards for Forge revolve around Evo 2 and upgrading your HV for future activations. The story of your HV will continue to move beyond Forge as we embark on future adventures. For those who are at the top of the Shards Leaderboard at the end of season 6, ApeCoin rewards as part of the icing on the cake.
In the meantime, here is how rewards will be distributed:
*Your Powerscore will be part of the metadata associated with your HV, based on stats gained during all seasons of Forge. The Powerscore multiplier from placing on the leaderboard provides a further enhancement to the Powerscore, which will come into play for Evo2 and beyond.
